Damien De Froberville Upped To President Of Sony Pictures Animation
Less than two years after joining Sony Pictures Animation (SPA), Damien de Froberville is now running the entire studio. He has been named president of the studio, a title that he will share with current president Kristine Belson.
The announcement was made internally at the studio on Tuesday. Here’s what we know about de Froberville’s new role at the studio:
- De Froberville was hired in 2023 as SPA’s evp of production and operating strategy. He had previously worked in management at Paramount and Dreamworks Animation. At the latter, he was general manager of Dreamworks’ India studio, which shut down in 2017. He has also held roles at Sergio Pablos Animation in Madrid and independently produced the short “Sith” for Disney’s Star Wars: Visions.
- Belson wrote in a note to SPA staff: “This new title and structure recognizes the significant responsibilities he has already undertaken and the vital role he has played at our studio. Since his arrival, Damien and I have worked in tandem to guide the studio’s strategic direction, drive its continued growth, and oversee all aspects of development and production across our animation slate. … Damien’s broad expertise in animation production has made him an invaluable partner. With decades of leadership experience at global companies, his promotion is well deserved.”
- SPA’s upcoming titles include KPop Demon Hunters, Fixed, GOAT, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, as well as multiple animated shows for Netflix, including a Ghostbusters series.
